CASTING CALL:
Temate Institute for Black Dance and Culture
We have extended the search for Actors! We are looking for 3-5 Actors of all gender identities to help guide our 2026 concert, Evolving Legacy: A Journey of Reconnection, on October 17. If you are an actor in the Metro-Detroit area and are a strong mover/ dancer, this is the perfect opportunity! Rehearsals will be held Wednesdays, 7:30-9:30, through October.
Materials needed:
⁃ a monologue or spoken word piece aligned with the character that speaks to you.
⁃ 15- 30 seconds of you vibing to your favorite song- ANY AND ALL STYLES
Pay is $15 hourly

2. Layla (Supporting)
• Gives "auntie" energy
• The life of the party
• Warm and caring
3. Sue (Supporting)
• Type A personality
• Granny-like presence
• Direct, yet loving and caring (often with a signature raised eyebrow)
4. Alonzo
• Eager
• Witty
• Charismatic young man.

ABOUT THE SHOW
Joy Is a Place is the 2026 TéMaTé Institute Convening for Dance and Culture concert and the first work in an ongoing performance series exploring the spaces that shape our collective joy.
We honor the gathering places that have sustained cultural life. Through movement, music, and storytelling rooted in traditions, the concert celebrates the people, places, and memories that remind us joy is not simply an emotion, but a cultural home we create together.
