About the Show:

Joy Is a Place is the 2026 TéMaTé Institute Convening for Dance and Culture concert and the

first work in an ongoing performance series exploring the spaces that shape our collective joy.

We honor the gathering places that have sustained cultural life. Through movement, music, and

storytelling rooted in traditions, the concert celebrates the people, places, and memories that

remind us joy is not simply an emotion, but a cultural home we create together.

Roles Seeking:

Female Lead (1)

We are seeking an African American or Black female, aged 25 to 45, for the lead role in this

production. The ideal candidate will have experience with monologues and dialogue, be able to

perform basic rhythmic movements, and be comfortable with chanting and call-and-response

singing in an ensemble.

Experience with film acting or theater preferred.

Female Supporting Actor (2)

We are seeking an African American or Black female, between the ages of 25 and 45, for a

supporting role in this production. The ideal candidate will have experience with monologues

and dialogue, be able to perform basic rhythmic movements, and be comfortable with chanting

and call-and-response singing in an ensemble.

Experience with film acting or theater preferred.

Male Supporting Actor (2)

We are seeking an African American or Black male, between the ages of 25 and 45, for a

supporting role in this production. The ideal candidate will have experience with monologues
